When I was a very little girl growing up in the 50s, my mother—as with most women of her generation—was an excellent baker. She made everything from scratch and prepared wonderful breads and cakes, but her specialty was homemade pies.

She baked pies like no one else. She baked them for fairs, for church events, and for her family. The secret to her delicious pies? A tender and flaky pie crust. 

As a little girl, I watched Mom roll out the pie dough and trim off the excess dough from the pie plate. This was my favorite part because Mom would form the extra dough into the shape of little “ducks” and pop them into the oven as a special treat. The result was a delicious bite of pastry that literally melted in my mouth.

When thinking about a new product to introduce to our line of dog treats, I thought fondly back to Mom's delicious ducks and how much I enjoyed that special moment in my childhood. We decided to re-create the same delectable treat for our family’s furry friends and after our pets enjoyed their dog version so much, we decided to create K9 Granola Factory’s line of Oven Fresh Quacks as a nod to the pie crust ducks Mom used to make.
