Benefits of Feeding Your Dog Apples

Fall is in the air, and apples are appearing on orchard trees everywhere. With it comes a feast of apple treats: apple cider, apple crumble, apple crisp, apple pie…

And while we eat such delicious desserts, we have our canine companions sitting at our feet, wearing their best puppy dog eyes and begging for a bite. You can’t go feeding your dog apple pie, but apples make such a great treat for your furry friend!

Here’s 3 reasons why to feed your dog apples:

🍎 Apples contain lots of nutrients for your dog like vitamin A, Vitamin C, potassium, fiber, and antioxidants.

🍁 Vitamin A helps a dog’s skin and can contribute to a healthy, shiny coat.

🍁 Vitamin C and other antioxidants help with inflammation and maintain a healthy  immune system.

🍁 Potassium aids in functions of vital organs like the heart and kidneys.

Apples are also sweet and low in calories, making it a wonderful healthy alternative to other treats.

🍎 Chewing apples is good for your dogs teeth! While it cannot replace regular dental care, the crunch and fibrous texture can reduce plaque and make your dog’s breath a little fresher.

🍎 Apples have a high water content. As summer is coming to a close, you can feed your dogs apples to keep them refreshed.

🍁 You can take it a step further by freezing cut pieces of apple and feeding it to your puppy to cool them down!

Don’t forget to use caution when starting your dogs on apples. As always, introduce it slowly and in moderation for best results. Remember to remove the core and seeds to keep your pet safe.
